MSB Suffolk Club Lambs started in 1979 and has bred and shown sheep continually since. In the early years the emphasis was on building a flock of productive, thick ewes that were structurally correct. The first wether sire that we used was a Spud son we purchased from High Hill Club Lambs in Nebraska. Containing Wintex bloodlines his lambs were extremely thick with great tops.
We now run 130 brood ewes with half of them being registered Suffolk wether style sheep, with the remainder being unregistered Suffolk type. In the registered group, the rams that have had the greatest impact have been from Slack, Altemeier, and our own MSB rams. In the unregistered flock the rams we have used are Fields, Harrell, McGolden and MSB rams. We currently added Shell 635 for use in this group. The emphasis for all of our ewes is to be productive in a forage based program, but carry the important traits of muscling, correctness and longevity along with show ring style.
We have used gene testing in our flock for 8 years and maintain all QR or RR ewes. We don't chase fads, our philosophy is to maintain a uniform group of working ewes that can be bred to those show style bucks to produce the winning show lambs that we all strive to bred. We breed the kind of sheep we like, and they have been very successful for us and our customers.
